Katie Glassman
Violin teacher Fiddle/Jazz, Group Instruction, Private Lessons
Katie Glassman grew up as a Texas and old-time fiddler. With a passion for fiddling, the two-time National fiddle champion knew her connection with music. She continued her musical journey, exploring classical music and jazz. Katie graduated from the University of Colorado at Boulder. She was the first violinist to receive a Certificate of Jazz Studies there. Katie then moved to Dammarie-Les-Lys France and studied jazz at Centre Musique Didier Lockwood (studying under Didier, the protégé of Stephane Grappelli). Katie has performed all throughout the northwest and in France. She’s performed with Lannie Garrett, Gypsy Swing Revue, on E-town with Hazel Miller and Dave Alvin, Andy Stein (Prairie Home Companion), Impromptu and many more.
Katie has been teaching private fiddle lessons for 14 years. She’s developed a comprehensive study in fiddling and continuing on to improvisation and theory. Lessons are taught with an emphasis on learning by ear—the traditional way of passing on fiddling from generation to generation.
